We should say this upfront: we run one of the shops on this list. But Tunbridge Wells is well served for men's hair, every shop here has clients who swear by it, and the honest truth is that the right barber depends on what you want from the chair. So this is the guide we would want if we had just moved to town: every shop, what it does well, and who it suits.
If you want the short version, ask yourself two questions. Do you want to walk in off the street or book ahead? And do you want a quick, sharp cut or a longer appointment with a proper consultation? Those two answers will land you in one of the three groups below.
Walk in, good value, no fuss
Fellas Barbers, 136 Camden Road. A proper walk-in barbershop, with parking behind the shop. If your routine is "walk past, see an empty chair, get a trim", this is the model that serves it.
George's Barbershop, 84 Camden Road. A Camden Road fixture since 1992, and proud of its traditional craft. Haircuts are £15, skin fades £19, with senior and children's cuts at £12. They ask you to book a day ahead, and there is free parking outside for an hour. Thirty years in one location tells you most of what you need to know.
Royal Barber, 4 Grove Hill Road. Handy for the station side of town, with hot towel shaves and beard work alongside the haircuts, and open seven days including Sunday. One of the few places in town for a traditional hot shave.
Capilus2, Royal Victoria Place. Inside the shopping centre, opposite M&S, which makes it the easiest shop to combine with a Saturday errand. Cuts run from about £14 to £25, with hot towel shaves, threading and waxing on the menu, and Sunday opening. Going since 2020.
Classic appointment barbershops
A Few Good Men, 62 Grosvenor Road. A well-established town centre shop with hours that suit working weeks, Saturday early starts and Sunday opening. A loyal local following.
Fargs. Part of a Kent chain going since 2005, with a Tunbridge Wells branch and a claim few shops make: a satisfaction guarantee, with a free recut if you are not happy. Booking runs through their app.
Odyssey Barbershop. Currently sitting at the top of the map results when you search for barbers in town, which speaks to a strong run of reviews. Appointments book online.
The Avenue Barbers, 13 Crescent Road. Three barbers, a modern shop, and a retail shelf of styling products. They also fit hair systems, which almost nobody else in town offers.
Prestige Barbers. A smaller shop with a steady local base. Worth a look if you are nearby.
The salon-service end
The P2 Collective, 70 Camden Road. Ours, so judge this entry accordingly. We are an appointment-only men's hair salon rather than a walk-in barbershop: 45-minute appointments as standard, each starting with a consultation, with every stylist trained through our in-house P2 Principles programme. In 2026 we placed 5th in the UK for Barbershop of the Year at the Hair & Beauty Awards. Haircuts start from £29. If you want the quickest or cheapest cut in town, we are honestly not it; if you want the most considered one, that is exactly what we built.
What we would tell a mate
- Quick, cheap and reliable: George's or Fellas, both on Camden Road.
- Sunday haircut: Royal Barber, Capilus2 or A Few Good Men.
- Hot towel shave: Royal Barber or Capilus2.
- While the family shops: Capilus2, inside Royal Victoria Place.
- A guarantee behind the cut: Fargs.
- Longer hair, a restyle, or your first proper consultation: us. It is the reason we work by appointment.
Whoever you choose, a good barber relationship is worth the small effort of finding it. We wrote a separate guide on how to choose a barber that applies to every shop on this list, including ours. And if the P2 approach sounds like your kind of thing, the door on Camden Road is easy to find.
Every appointment starts with an in-depth consultation.
