How much does a haircut cost in Tunbridge Wells?

Scissors, comb and shaving brush laid out on a barber station

Nobody likes asking the price from the chair. So here it is in plain numbers: a men's haircut in Tunbridge Wells in 2026 costs anywhere from £12 to around £45, and the spread is not random. Town splits fairly neatly into three tiers, and each one is buying you something different.

The quick and classic tier: £12 to £19

This is the traditional barbershop offer, and Tunbridge Wells does it well. George's Barbershop on Camden Road charges £15 for a haircut and £19 for a skin fade, with seniors and children at £12. Capilus2 in Royal Victoria Place starts around £14. At this level you are typically in and out inside half an hour: clipper-led work, a sharp finish, no wash, no fuss.

If your cut is simple, your barber knows it by heart and you go every couple of weeks, this tier is genuinely good value. Nothing we say further down changes that.

The middle: £20 to £30

Most appointment-led barbershops in town sit somewhere in this band, depending on the barber and the service. You are paying for a bit more time, usually a more experienced pair of hands on more involved work, and the certainty of a booked slot rather than a queue. Skin fades, beard work and longer clipper-and-scissor combinations tend to live here.

The salon-service tier: £29 and up

This is where we sit, so read this section knowing that. At The P2 Collective a Haircut & Finish starts from £29, a combined Hair & Beard from £34, and a Restyle from £33. Beard trims start from £22, young men's cuts from £26, and mature gentlemen from £22. Prices are "from" because they vary by stylist, and the exact figure is shown when you book.

What does the extra money buy? Time, mostly, and what time makes possible. Appointments run 45 minutes as standard. Every one starts with a consultation about your hair, your routine and what has annoyed you about previous cuts. The cut itself covers scissor work as well as clippers, and it ends with a wash and a proper finish, so you leave with the hair you will actually have, not the salon version of it.

What actually moves the price

Four things, mostly:

  • Time in the chair. A 20-minute slot and a 45-minute one are different products. Neither is wrong; they suit different cuts.
  • The work involved. A grade two all over and a scissor cut through longer hair are hours apart in training terms, and the price reflects it.
  • Consultation and finishing. The conversation before and the wash and styling after are where salon-service pricing goes.
  • How often you need to come back. A sharper, more structured cut can be built to grow out well, which stretches the weeks between visits. We wrote about that in how often should men get their hair cut.

That last one is worth doing the arithmetic on. A £15 cut every two weeks is £30 a month. A £29 cut shaped to last five or six weeks is less than that, which surprises people. It depends entirely on the style you wear: a skin fade needs refreshing often whoever cuts it, as we covered in taper or skin fade.

Kids, students and seniors

Most shops in town price children and over-65s kindly. George's does both at £12; our own Young Man's Haircut starts from £26 and a Mature Gentleman's from £22, with the same appointment length as everyone else. If you are choosing for a nervous four-year-old, ask any shop how much time they will actually give the cut; the answer tells you more than the price does.

The honest summary

There is no wrong tier, only a wrong match. Pay £15 for a simple cut done by someone who knows your head, and you have done well. Pay £29 or more, and you should be getting measurably more: time, consultation, scissor craft and a finish. If a shop charges salon prices for a barbershop service, that is the mismatch to avoid. Every price on our own list is on the services page, exact figures at booking, nothing revealed in the chair.
