5th in the UK: the story behind our awards

The P2 Collective team together with the 2025 awards

The certificate arrived this August: The P2 Collective placed 5th in the UK for Barbershop of the Year at the 2026 Hair & Beauty Awards. Fifth, nationally, out of every barbershop in the country that entered. We are proud of that one, and we want to tell the story properly, because it did not come from nowhere.

2024: the first plaques

P2 opened in 2023, and the first recognition came at the local business awards the following year: Runner-up for Best New Business, and finalist places for Best Client Experience, Best Newly Refurbished Salon and Hair & Beauty Business of the Year.

Looking back, the one that mattered most was Best Client Experience. A new shop can be forgiven for rough edges while it finds its feet; we had decided from day one that the experience would not be one of them. Being shortlisted for it within a year told us the thing we cared about most was the thing people were noticing.

2025: the double

The following year we won two: Hair & Beauty Business of the Year, and Team of the Year.

Team of the Year is the one that still means the most to us. The whole point of P2 is that a great haircut should not depend on which chair you sit in, which is why every stylist develops through the same in-house programme, the P2 Principles. An award for the team, rather than for any one name above the door, is that idea working. You can meet the people who won it on the team page.

2026: the national stage

This year we put ourselves up against the country. Alongside finalist places at the Beauty Full Awards and the Salon Awards, we entered the UK Hair & Beauty Awards, and when the final results came through in August we had placed 5th in the UK for Barbershop of the Year.

We will be honest about our first reaction: fifth stings just a little, because now we want the top spot. But sit with it a moment and the scale sinks in. A team of stylists on Camden Road in Tunbridge Wells, measured against every entering barbershop in the country, and only four placed ahead. Two years after those first local finalist places.

What awards mean, and what they do not

Awards are judged from the outside. Your haircut is judged from the chair, every time, by the only judge whose opinion pays the bills. We have never confused the two, and the line we keep repeating on this site is still true: the accolades mean a great deal, but our biggest achievement is the trust our clients place in us every day.

So why enter at all? Three reasons. It sets a bar for us to clear rather than coast past. It gives the team something to point at that their work earned; nobody wins Team of the Year alone. And it tells anyone choosing between the town's shops something a star rating cannot: that an independent panel put this salon fifth in the country.

The full list, year by year, lives on the reviews page, next to the words of the clients who matter more. And if you want to know what fifth in the UK feels like from the chair, that is an easy one to find out; the door on Camden Road is open.

What a visit to the salon is actually like.
